Prince: 1958 – 2016

Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today 2 get thru this thing called life.

Reading the other day that Prince had been admitted 2 and released form a hospital 4 complications stemming form a bout of the flu, I figured it was a dehydration issue and nothing more.  Details have not yet been released, but apparently there was something more 2 it.

What I find fascinating about Prince is the fact that he wrote so many songs I learned from other musicians.  I never did like Sinead O’Connor’s version of “Nothing Compares 2 U”, but Prince’s is better.  I remembered “Let’s Go Crazy” and “Little Red Corvette” from my childhood, only 2 later learn they were Prince songs.  “When Doves Cry” was released as a cover on the Romeo & Juliet soundtrack from the 1990s.

My favorite story 2 tell about Prince was how in 2007, only three years after the Janet Jackson/Justin Timberlake incident at the Super Bowl, the NFL decided it would be a good idea 2 have rock icon Prince perform at the Halftime show (the man who wrote “Darling Nikki”).  What could go wrong?  After all, he doesn’t have lady parts unsuitable for live television.  His stunt instead was 2 have a giant sheet raised in front of him and have a guitar with a neck that came 2 a point.  The silhouette of which made it look like he was playing with a prodigious phallus.

Way 2 go Prince.  Your rugged individuality and sense of moral correctness will be missed.
